UELG's  Employment Lawyers

California has the nation's most progressive and employee-friendly employment policies. Many employers take advantage of workers or do not know the laws. This can cause work-related challenges, unjust pay reductions, or life-changing events like wrongful termination. Understanding California's employment laws will help you safeguard your rights and decide when to engage a Los Angeles employment attorney.

Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

The federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provides disabled workers in the United States with equal rights and opportunities. It is designed to prevent disability discrimination and harassment, and requires that employers provide adequate accommodations. United Employees Law Group ADA attorneys can help you fight for your rights and justice if an employer has denied you employment, wrongfully terminated, or punished you due to a disability.

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Under the federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other federal laws, California employees who meet certain requirements can take up to 12 weeks of unpaid time off per year. The employee must have a valid reason, in line with the law’s directives, to support the leave. Every employer with 50 or more workers must comply with the provisions of the FMLA. Having a child, receiving a significant medical diagnosis, or caring for a family member with a serious illness can qualify an employee to exercise FMLA leave. An LA Family Medical Leave attorney can assist you in a civil claim if your employer violates the FMLA.

California Family Rights Act (CFRA).

The California Family Rights Act (CFRA) grants eligible employees 12 weeks of paid or unpaid leave with job protection per year. Like the FMLA, it covers employees with health issues, sick family members, and children. The CFRA employee retains employer-paid health benefits while on leave.

Equal Pay Act.

The Equal Pay Act of California prohibits employers from underpaying workers based on a host of protected categories, to include gender, race, sex, ethnicity, age, handicap, and other protected classes. This California legislation requires equal pay for all workers. If you believe your employer pays you less based on your inclusion in a protected class, an Equal Pay Act lawyer can help you fight for equitable compensation.
Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA).
The state's Fair Employment and Housing Act prohibits workplace harassment and discrimination. If an employer has five employees or more they cannot prejudice or retaliate against applicants and employees based on a protected category. FEHA protects workers federally under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Employment Law encompasses the legal framework that governs the relationship between employers and employees. It covers a wide range of issues, including hiring, termination, wages, benefits, workplace safety, discrimination, harassment, and more. Understanding Employment Law is crucial to ensure fair treatment, compliance with regulations, and protection of rights in the workplace.
Your rights as an employee include the right to a safe workplace, fair wages, equal opportunities, protection against discrimination and harassment, the right to join a union, and more.
